Day 14 - Eye

Ready to school

Spent some time this morning reading little bit on the topic ‘eyes’ in the net. First time read bit about ‘The Eye of Horus’ and ‘The Eye of Ra’, and what our great religions has says about it, the jobless eyes which is watching us from the sky... Interesting to know something about reading the eyes of people, third eye, evil eyes….

This is one of my favorite song of Steelheart - I'll Never Let You Go (Angel eyes), had it in cassette 'slow rock collection'

Day 10 - Childhood memory

Breakfast this morning – Idlis + Molaga podi (gunpowder) + Tilli Oil

I never liked this breakfast in my childhood days, always use to grumble, make faces to my mother. Now, my children say something similar looking at Idlis ‘Amma, this is boring… give me corn flakes please’. Anyway, these days I do enjoy Idlis but with Sambar, not with molaga podi.

Wrote this 'Horror story' few years ago…

Day 8 - Bad habit

Some of  my bad habits…

Smoking till the filter

Smoking inside the car. But not when I travel with my family, to avoid being thrown out of the moving vehicle.

I don’t have the habit of put off the butts by shoes or anything before throwing it on the streets.

I have a bad habit of thinking of quitting before I go to bed.

Telling lies to my wife about the number of cigarettes that I smoke in a day.

Not carrying the match box or a lighter all the time.

Real bad one - and I don't like the people who advise me not to smoke as if they are all perfect.

Good food, good sex, good digestion, good sleep:  to these basic animal pleasures, man has added nothing but the good cigarette. - Mignon McLaughlin.

Day 6 - Low angle

This one hanging right above my table, a Canadian calendar (gift from deeps aunt), you may see ‘St. Baptiste day, flag day on 14th and summer solstice and stuff.

And I googled to see what happened on this day in history, few caught my attention.
Here are they…

1889 - Start of Sherlock Holmes adventure "Man with the Twisted Lip"
Really!.. Oh man! I just remember those days, how I use to enjoy watching these kinds of serials on DD (Doordarshan) in 80s. and Karamchand, The Old Fox…

1910 – The first Father's Day is celebrated in Spokane, Washington.
Big Deal!

1944 - 300 Japanese aircrafts shot down.
This must be real big news on that day. Read if you like to know bit more ..

1966 – Shiv Sena a political party in India is founded in Mumbai.
Who care…

1992 - Evander Holyfield beats Larry Holmes in 12 full rounds for heavyweight boxing title
I think I watched this fight live in TV.

File shot: Low angle

Drizzling while I was taking this picture, you can see the dark clouds behind, This Temple is somewhere in Thrunelveli Dst. (Tamil Nadu).

Day 5 - Top angle

Today I am goin to give 5 simple tips for ‘how to pose in front of the camera', which I learned and experienced over the years.

Well, I am not a ‘pro’ in this field, but I consider myself a ‘matured amateur photographer’ ;)…  In 90s as a visualiser / art director, I had the opportunity to work with some very good professionals in this field of photography, most of them were ‘table-top’ specialists, some from ‘fashion’ and also with some real great dubakur photographers.

Here are they…

One This is the basic. Don't just look at the camera, ‘LOOK THROUGH IT’. Any professional fashion / Portrait photographer will say this all the time even to some pro models, to get much sharper look while shooting. You look not the lens, try to look at the eyes behind the lens, no matter how far you stand.

Two Smile through your eyes, not just your mouth. May be you can try squinting your eyes just a bit for a more flattering smile or pretend like you just saw something funny, or you were just told a joke!. Don’t be shy of what the photographer will think. Just don’t care. Professional photographers will like that.

Three Please don't try to hide your teeth while smiling. This is one of the common mistake every one does. I hate that too. Be confident. When you laugh with all your teeth, people will find you much more appealing.  It may take a while to get used to but once you see that you are genuinely happy in pictures etc. and you will understand how much nicer you look. Just try it next time!

Four When you standing in extreme left or the right side of a group shot, don’t  bend inside the frame, as if your head going to get chopped off. Stand straight.

Five This is another one I heard from many photographers saying this always just before the shutter clicks, ‘keep your head down… that’s it  ... thats it…’ and then ‘slowly bring it up… hey, don't jerk your head, you #^%#@*... that’s it… that’s it.. good’ click.

Here is another cheap trick I remember.
An old colleague of mine had the habit of standing always on the higher part of the surface while posing the group photos to look taller. Sometime he even shamelessly collects a stone or someone else shoes nearby, place it underneath his feet and stand on it.

File shot: High angle

I took this picture outside the ‘Thillai Natarajar Temple’, Chidambaram (Tamil Nadu) in 2010.

Day 4 - Green

The bottle that survived with me for last 15 years.

File Picture:

I visited this beautiful Palace called ‘Moti Mahal’ in one of my visit to Madhya Pradesh during peak of the monsoon season in 25th August 2012. And this medium size palace is located in Ram Nagar, around 15 Km. from Mandla and this was built on the banks of the river Narmada by the Gond (tribe) rulers in 1667.

Due to the rains, roads were very slippery and bad, and the fort and palace in a very miserable condition, only the watch tower is in left little bit better condition otherwise nothing much left.

And I thank Fr. George from Mandla diocese for arranging this trip justt for me.

Pool Gate Market ( Poona )

This is kind of a ritual for us last few years, almost every sunday morning after the service at St. Paul's, we come to this market to buy vegetables and fruits for the week, and this is one of Deppa's favorite shop.

And here (below) is the shop, boys and myself always end up finishing few bottles of coconut water.

Day 3 - Clouds

Dark clouds behind the steeples of St. Pauls Church this moning. Raning non stop for last 24 hours, this is just the beginign of monsoon season in Pune.

Day 1 - Self Portrait

The last thing that I want is to click my self portrait. Its like "Look at me! I want you to see me! It's all about me, Me, ME!". But I'm sure there are a lot of people like me who feel the same. It is bit embarrassing to think of clicking your own picture, even some don't like their picture being taken by someone else.

First I was self conscious, thinking of what others will say and feel like you're going to be judged and stuff.

This morning I decided that I will click it in front of the bathroom mirror, because this is the place I spent maximum time watching my face very closely since childhood, making funny faces and trying different expressions…

In conclusion, I can tell the people who are afraid of taking their own picture. don't be afraid, be willing to laugh at yourself and don't care what others think of you.. Have fun. Because, well..... it's not fun. ;)
